CCCC 201. Perché la Chiesa ha il potere di perdonare i peccati?

La Chiesa ha la missione e il potere di perdonare i peccati, perché Cristo stesso glielo ha conferito: «Ricevete lo Spirito Santo; a chi rimetterete i peccati saranno rimessi e a chi non li rimetterete resteranno non rimessi» (Gv 20,22-23).

L’Église a la mission et le pouvoir de pardonner les péchés, parce que c’est le Christ lui-même qui les lui a conférés : « Recevez l’Esprit Saint. Tout homme à qui vous remettrez ses péchés, ils lui seront remis; tout homme à qui vous maintiendrez ses péchés, ils lui seront maintenus » (Jn 20,22-23).

The Church has the mission and the power to forgive sins because Christ himself has conferred it upon her: “Receive the Holy Spirit, if you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained” (John 20:22-23).
