CCCC 422. Che cos'è la giustificazione?

La giustificazione è l'opera più eccellente dell'amore di Dio. È l'azione misericordiosa e gratuita di Dio, che cancella i nostri peccati e ci rende giusti e santi in tutto il nostro essere. Ciò avviene per mezzo della grazia dello Spirito Santo, che ci è stata meritata dalla passione di Cristo e ci è donata nel Battesimo. La giustificazione dà inizio alla libera risposta dell'uomo, cioè alla fede in Cristo e alla collaborazione con la grazia dello Spirito Santo.

CCCC 422. Qu’est-ce que la justification?

La justification est l’œuvre la plus excellente de l’amour de Dieu. Elle est l’action miséricordieuse et gratuite de Dieu qui nous remet nos péchés et qui nous rend justes et saints dans tout notre être. Cela se réalise par la grâce de l’Esprit Saint, qui nous a été méritée par la passion du Christ et qui nous est donnée par le Baptême. La justification ouvre la voie à la libre réponse de l’homme, c’est-à-dire à la foi au Christ et à la collaboration avec la grâce de l’Esprit Saint.

CCC 1987-1995, 2017-2020 
Justification is the most excellent work of God's love. It is the merciful and freely-given act of God which takes away our sins and makes us just and holy in our whole being. It is brought about by means of the grace of the Holy Spirit which has been merited for us by the passion of Christ and is given to us in Baptism. Justification is the beginning of the free response of man, that is, faith in Christ and of cooperation with the grace of the Holy Spirit.
