CCCC 213. Come si concilia l'esistenza dell'inferno con l'infinita bontà di Dio?

Dio, pur volendo «che tutti abbiano modo di pentirsi» (2 Pt 3,9), tuttavia, avendo creato l'uomo libero e responsabile, rispetta le sue decisioni. Pertanto, è l'uomo stesso che, in piena autonomia, si esclude volontariamente dalla comunione con Dio se, fino al momento della propria morte, persiste nel peccato mortale, rifiutando l'amore misericordioso di Dio.

S’il veut que « tous parviennent au repentir » (2 P 3,9), Dieu a toutefois créé l’homme libre et responsable, et il respecte ses décisions. C’est donc l’homme lui-même qui, en pleine autonomie, s’exclut volontairement de la communion avec Dieu, si, jusqu’au moment de sa mort, il persiste dans le péché mortel, refusant l’amour miséricordieux de Dieu.

God, while desiring “all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9), nevertheless has created the human person to be free and responsible; and he respects our decisions. Therefore, it is the human person who freely excludes himself from communion with God if at the moment of death he persists in mortal sin and refuses the merciful love of God.
