CCCC 434. «Maestro, che cosa devo fare di buono per ottenere la vita eterna?» (Mt 19,16).

Al giovane che gli rivolge questa domanda Gesù risponde: «Se vuoi entrare nella vita, osserva i Comandamenti», e poi aggiunge: «Vieni e seguimi» (Mt 19,16.21). Seguire Gesù implica l'osservanza dei Comandamenti. La Legge non è abolita, ma l'uomo è invitato a ritrovarla nella persona del divino Maestro, che la realizza perfettamente in se stesso, ne rivela il pieno significato e ne attesta la perennità.

Au jeune homme qui l’interroge, Jésus répond : « Si tu veux entrer dans la vie, observe les commandements», puis il ajoute : « Viens et suis moi » (Mt 19,16-21). Suivre Jésus implique d’observer les commandements. La Loi n’est pas abolie; mais l’homme est invité à la retrouver dans la personne du Divin Maître, qui la réalise parfaitement en lui-même, qui en révèle la pleine signification et qui en atteste la pérennité.

To the young man who asked this question, Jesus answered, “If you would enter into life, keep the commandments”, and then he added, “Come, follow Me” (Matthew 19:16-21). To follow Jesus involves keeping the commandments. The law has not been abolished but man is invited to rediscover it in the Person of the divine Master who realized it perfectly in himself, revealed its full meaning and attested to its permanent validity.
