CCCC 264. Quale significato assume il nome cristiano ricevuto nel Battesimo?

Il nome è importante, perché Dio conosce ciascuno per nome, cioè nella sua unicità. Con il Battesimo, il cristiano riceve nella Chiesa il proprio nome, preferibilmente quello di un santo, in modo che questi offra al battezzato un modello di santità e gli assicuri la sua intercessione presso Dio.

Tout nom est important puisque que Dieu connaît chacun par son nom, c’est-à-dire par son caractère unique. Au Baptême, le chrétien reçoit dans l’Église un nom particulier, de préférence celui d’un saint, qui offre au baptisé un modèle de sainteté et qui l’assure de son intercession auprès de Dieu.

The name is important because God knows each of us by name, that is, in our uniqueness as persons. In Baptism a Christian receives his or her own name in the Church. It should preferably be the name of a saint who might offer the baptized a model of sanctity and an assurance of his or her intercession before God.
