CCCC 452. Per quale motivo, per i cristiani, il sabato è stato sostituito dalla domenica?

Perché la domenica è il giorno della Risurrezione di Cristo. Come «primo giorno della settimana» (Mc 16,2), essa richiama la prima creazione; come «ottavo giorno», che segue il sabato, significa la nuova creazione inaugurata con la Risurrezione di Cristo. E diventata così, per i cristiani, il primo di tutti i giorni e di tutte le feste: il giorno del Signore, nel quale egli, con la sua Pasqua, porta a compimento la verità spirituale del sabato ebraico ed annuncia il riposo eterno dell'uomo in Dio.

Le dimanche est le jour de la résurrection du Christ. Comme « premier jour de la semaine » (Mc 16,2), il rappelle la première création; comme « huitième jour », jour qui suit le sabbat, il signifie la nouvelle création inaugurée par la résurrection du Christ. Ainsi, il est devenu pour les chrétiens le premier de tous les jours et de toutes les fêtes : le jour du Seigneur, qui, dans sa Pâque, porte à son achèvement le sabbat juif et annonce le repos éternel de l’homme en Dieu.

CCCC 452. For what reason has the Sabbath been changed to Sunday for Christians?

The reason is because Sunday is the day of the Resurrection of Christ. As “the first day of the week” (Mark 16:2) it recalls the first creation; and as the “eighth day”, which follows the sabbath, it symbolizes the new creation ushered in by the Resurrection of Christ. Thus, it has become for Christians the first of all days and of all feasts. It is the day of the Lord in which he with his Passover fulfilled the spiritual truth of the Jewish Sabbath and proclaimed man’s eternal rest in God.
