CCCC 370. Che cosa sono le passioni?

Le passioni sono gli affetti, le emozioni o i moti della sensibilità - componenti naturali della psicologia umana - che spingono ad agire o a non agire in vista di ciò che è percepito come buono o come cattivo. Le principali sono l'amore e l'odio, il desiderio e il timore, la gioia, la tristezza, la collera. Passione precipua è l'amore, provocato dall'attrattiva del bene. Non si ama che il bene, vero o apparente.

Les passions sont les affections, les émotions ou les mouvements de la sensibilité – composantes naturelles du psychisme humain –, qui poussent à agir ou à ne pas agir en vue de ce qui est ressenti comme bon ou comme mauvais. Les principales passions sont l’amour et la haine, le désir et la crainte, la joie, la tristesse, la colère. La passion primordiale est l’amour, provoqué par l’attirance du bien. On n’aime que le bien, réel ou apparent.

The passions are the feelings, the emotions or the movements of the sensible appetite - natural components of human psychology - which incline a person to act or not to act in view of what is perceived as good or evil. The principal passions are love and hatred, desire and fear, joy, sadness, and anger. The chief passion is love which is drawn by the attraction of the good. One can only love what is good, real or apparent.
