CCCC 141. Che cosa compie lo Spirito Santo in Giovanni Battista?

Lo Spirito riempie Giovanni Battista, l'ultimo profeta dell' Antico Testamento, il quale, sotto la sua azione, è mandato a «preparare al Signore un popolo ben disposto» (Lc 1,17) e ad annunciare la venuta di Cristo, Figlio di Dio: colui sul quale ha visto scendere e rimanere lo Spirito, «colui che battezza in Spirito» (Gv 1,33).

L’Esprit remplit Jean-Baptiste, le dernier prophète de l’Ancien Testament, qui, sous son action, est envoyé pour « préparer un peuple au Seigneur » (Lc 1,17), et pour annoncer la venue du Christ, le Fils de Dieu, celui sur lequel il a vu descendre et demeurer l’Esprit, celui qui « baptise dans l’Esprit » (Jn 1,33).

The Spirit filled John the Baptist, who was the last prophet of the Old Testament. Under his inspiration John was sent to “prepare for the Lord a people well disposed” (Luke 1:17). He was to proclaim the coming of Christ, the Son of God, upon whom he saw the Spirit descend and remain, the one who “baptizes with the Spirit” (John 1:33).
