CCCC 174. Perché la Chiesa è apostolica?

La Chiesa è apostolica per la sua origine, essendo costruita sul « fondamento degli Apostoli» (Ef 2,20); per il suo insegnamento, che è quello stesso degli Apostoli; per la sua struttura, in quanto istruita, santificata e governata, fino al ritorno di Cristo, dagli Apostoli, grazie ai loro successori, i Vescovi, in comunione col successore di Pietro.

L’Église est apostolique par son origine, parce qu’elle a « pour fondations les Apôtres » (Ep 2,20); par son enseignement, qui est celui des Apôtres; par sa structure, parce qu’elle est édifiée, sanctifiée et gouvernée, jusqu’au retour du Christ, par les Apôtres, grâce à leurs successeurs, les Évêques en communion avec le successeur de Pierre.

The Church is apostolic in her origin because she has been built on “the foundation of the Apostles” (Ephesians 2:20). She is apostolic in her teaching which is the same as that of the Apostles. She is apostolic by reason of her structure insofar as she is taught, sanctified, and guided until Christ returns by the Apostles through their successors who are the bishops in communion with the successor of Peter.
